Many articles and social media posts suggest that the colored stripe tells you what kind of ingredients the toothpaste contains:
- Green = natural
- Blue = natural + medicinal
- Red = natural + chemical
- Black = all chemicals
It sounds helpful—but there’s one big problem.
The Reality: It’s a Manufacturing Mark
Those colored marks are not meant for consumers at all.
They’re called “eye marks” or registration marks, and they’re used during the manufacturing process. Machines read these marks to know where to cut, fold, or seal the packaging.
👉 In other words: they have nothing to do with the ingredients inside the toothpaste.
